In the upper room the people were filled with The Holy Spirit and from there went out to do as Jesus commanded

Relationship with God and people is central to everything we do

We are a community that pursues God's presence, have a desire to hear His voice and walk in close relationship with Jesus. We long to see people set free from every harmful scheme of the enemy. With great passion we believe that unconditional love, overflowing joy and peace is the portion available for every person who will come to believe in The One who gives and sustains life.

We are Kingdom-minded. Although we are in Sandton — the economic hub of Africa — we are not influenced by it. We long to see the Kingdom of God invade and change our city. We believe that revival will come to this nation through every heart turned to Him.

We are worshippers. In spirit and in truth, we make our lives an offering of praise to our Lord and King. There is nothing sweeter than the collective sound of worship unto Him.

We celebrate one another and the God-given creativity that rests on each person — encouraging every purpose of theirs to be fulfilled. To honour and hold one another accountable is our privilege.

We will go. As a church we believe that the mission Jesus gave us extends beyond borders and that heaven will be filled with one beautifully diverse crowd of worshippers. UpperRoom have apostolic relationships with churches both local and international. These include partnerships in Malawi and Detroit, USA.

UpperRoom is led by Anton & Ang Keyter, together with an eldership team

Anton and Ang have yielded their lives to the call of God to serve His church, as a response to their true encounter with The Father.

Anton is deeply sensitive to the move and leading of the Holy Spirit and Ang is infectiously joyful about life and all that surrounds her. Together they are real, committed and in love with truth and the body of Christ.

Our History

UpperRoom, originally Sandton City Church, began in 2004 when Peter and Nicola Munnings felt the call to plant a church out of Capital City Church in Pretoria into the heart and hustle of Sandton City. After 7 dedicated years of leading, they handed over to Paul and Minda Nichols. This couple too, led, sowed into and served the church with a committed heart to make Jesus known.

Our Beliefs

We believe in the whole Bible, Old and New Testaments, as inspired by God and inerrant as they were originally given.

(2 TIMOTHY 3:16; 1 CORINTHIANS 2:13)

We believe in the breaking of bread, commonly called communion or the Lord’s Supper, where the bread and the cup are the symbols of celebrating and remembering Jesus’ sacrifice.

(1CORINTHIANS 11:28-32)

We believe God has revealed Himself as one God existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit;

(MATTHEW 28:19; 2 CORINTHIANS 13:14)

We believe that all Christians are called to a life of holiness, devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and service to Him.

(EPHESIANS 5:18; 2 CORINTHIANS 6:14, 7:1)

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and is the Saviour of humanity.

(LUKE 1:26-35; JOHN 1:18; ISAIAH 7:14, 9:6)

We believe in water baptism by immersion as a confession by the believer in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and an expression of faith and obedience to His command.

(MATTHEW 28:19; ACTS 2:37-41, 19:1-6)

We believe God created humanity in His image, free from sin, but humans rebelled through Adam’s sin and are born separated from God.

(ROMANS 5:12,18)

We believe that the local church is an autonomous group of believers who join their lives together in love. The local church is governed by the scriptures and operates under the Lordship of Christ with elders directing the people toward faithfulness in Christ, together with the help of other ministry gifts such as apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers and evangelists.

(EPHESIANS 1:22-23, EPHESIANS 4:11-16, 1 TIMOTHY 5:17)
